Edesia, the Roman goddess of fine wine and food, is walking the red carpet on April 5, when Wine Country Inn presents Hooray for Hollywood as its fundraiser for MarillacHealth.
All the trappings of Tinseltown will be on full display as the annual showcase for wine, spirits and gourmet cuisine, including reimagined dishes from Hollywood’s iconic restaurants served at the VIP luncheon to photo ops on the red carpet, an afternoon screening of Long Live the King, a documentary with the filmmakers, Fay Wray’s daughter and the actress who starred as Broadway’s Wray on a live panel afterwards to answer questions.
Adding the afternoon screening is a new touch which should appeal to film buffs who have long recognized King Kong as the seminal production that launched action movies and special effects.
Besides admitting guests to the screening and panel discussion, a general admission ticket entitles a guest sampling of wines, spirits and gourmet food from local wineries, breweries, distillery and restaurants.
“We’re putting tongue in cheek to pay homage to movies that entertain us through good times and bad,” explains Ian Kelley, General Manager. “
Flying in from Hollywood, documentary filmmakers Frank Dietz and Tricia Geiger will lead the panel discussion after the 2:30 p.m. screening. Joining them will be Wray’s daughter Victoria, who is a well known writer in her own right, and Alexis Iacono, the actress who played Wray in the Broadway production.
The VIP luncheon from 11 am to 1:30 pm will focus on dishes from popular star bistros the Formosa Café, Perino’s and The Brown Derby, where many careers were launched or hearts broken. Chef Wayne Smith, Western Colorado Community College’s Culinary Arts Dept., and Executive Chef Michael Deremer, Wine Country Inn, will re-imagine dishes that have been favorites of the stars.
Original star caricatures signed by Arn McConnell will be available in the silent auction along with vacation trips, crafts, wine and other items. Live Music will be performed in the courtyard.
VIP luncheon tickets are $125 each. General Admission tickets are $50. Tickets are available online at www.edesiapalisade.com.
“I would encourage everyone to buy tickets early because they will be sold on a first come, first served basis,” cautions Kelley. “Come on out for the fun. Who knows, you may even get a selfie with a Hollywood star!”
Profits from the event will support MarillacHealth in its efforts to serve uninsured and under-insured patients in Mesa County. Since its inception a decade ago, Edesia has awarded $212,000 to MarillacHealth. Last year the total was $38,000; in 2018, $33,000, and in 2017, $30,000.
Edesia’s Hooray for Hollywood is presented by FCI Constructors with Alpine Bank Peach Street Distillers, and St. Mary’s Medical Center.
